The Meraki Health Centre opened in early 2015 in order to create a community-based location for interdisciplinary services. Previously, the two co-directors, Dr. Shuvo Ghosh (Developmental-Behavioural Pediatrician) and Dr. Andreea Gorgos (General Pediatrician with specialty training in neonatal follow-up/neurodevelopment as well as clinical ethics) had met with Dr. Françoise Susset (Psychologist with special expertise in individual/couples therapy in the field of gender identity) to plan the project, and with the subsequent addition of other colleagues in these discussions, the team grew.
Presently the Centre’s activities have expanded to include not only clinical work but also a significant amount of research, supervision of trainees as a teaching site for McGill University, Université de Montréal, and UQAM, and ongoing collaboration with other professionals in the community who are working with marginalised populations, including the First Nations communities of Kahnawake and Kahnesatake.
